Bio
Based in Brussels, Pierre Gillet is a versatile guitarist and educator specializing in Brazilian music and jazz. Holding a Master’s degree in Jazz Guitar from the Brussels Conservatory, where he studied under Fabien Degryse and Vitor da Costa, Pierre Gillet further refined his craft at the Jazz Studio in Antwerp and during a summer school at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music.
With dual Belgian-Brazilian heritage, Pierre Gillet’s artistic identity is deeply rooted in his extensive travels and time spent living in Brazil. This background has fueled a profound dedication to the study and performance of Brazilian musical traditions. His career spans two decades, during which he has performed in numerous festivals and venues across Belgium and internationally, including Europe, Brazil, and Algeria.
A sought-after collaborator, Pierre Gillet has recorded and performed with renowned artists such as Steve Houben, Maxime Blésin, Greg Houben, Stéphane Mercier, Marylène Corro, Ana Rocha, Thibault Dille, Swami Jr., Nailor Proveta, Renato Martins, Marcos Della Rocha, and Fil Caporali. His diverse portfolio includes appearances in musical theater productions and performances with major orchestras, notably the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège.
Currently, Pierre Gillet serves as a Brazilian Guitar Professor at the MuziekPublique Academy in Brussels. He also conducts masterclasses on guitar, Brazilian music, and improvisation at various conservatories across France and Belgium. His primary instrument is the 7-string nylon guitar, which he has mastered over twenty years of performance.
